Preckwinkle.. 1,100 Layoff notices will be sent out next week.

Layoff notices could go out next week to at least 1,100 workers if Cook County's tax on sugary beverages isn't reinstated, the county's board president said Tuesday.

  1. This is beyond infuriating considering Dart has been so reckless with his prior budget decisions. Hopefully the unions are right saying this is all political smokescreen!

  2. How many people retired or quit not filling these open positions should save enough money?

  3. Hope he lays off all those useless do nothing civilians first. They're made up bullshit spots anyway.

  7. You could lay off a couple of thousand Crook County employees and no one would miss them, A better solution would be stop paying the ones that have been dead for 30 or more years!! It seems like the ones that have voted for the Democrats all of their lives are the ones crying the loudest!!

  8. "Useless Do nothing civilians"? We do a lot. I work my ass off day in and day out contributing to thelaw enforcement efforts in this county. Just because I don't have a badge doesn't mean I don't work hard, or that my position doesn't matter, or that I don't have kids and amortgage to take care of despite the layoff threats. It's not time to turn against each other.

    1. How come you don't have a badge? They gave one to almost every civilian. Then made them directors. You should call your clout.

    2. I think thou dost protest too much! Besides I believe they are referring to 200+ civilian exempt "directors" Fdart is hiding under the shakman decree. Civilian directors running a law enforcement agency? Yeah, that makes liberaltard sense!

Hmmm can you say - "hiding money and patronage jobs"?

  10. Great idea, unfortunately, the only lay offs will be those that actually do work and interact with the sheeple. The do nothing merits and overpaid hacks will continue to receive paychecks. Once the sheeple get tired enough of lack of actual service, they will approve a tax to get their basic services back.
That's the game the democrats run.

  12. There are always simpletons who assume the worst about the County when a unflattering story rears its head. Cowards often complain but never serve, scream "corruption" and "thin out the herd" all the while indulging in self serving decadent life styles. It's so easy to point and blame, but not actually act. Mrs. Vaughn is right, as employees without badges we're labeled without the slightest inking of our real job and the nonsence dealing with elected or appointed officials, must less the taxpayers who fail to read notices and then complain that whats happening isn't fair. The last Anonymous post is correct: real workers will lose their jobs, services will suffer and the approval will come to those still in power who don't know their jobs or how to do it. Do I agree with the tax? Hell no. Tax imports. Tax alcohol some more - people still readily consume it and its never seems to bother them how much this brain killing substance costs. Tax the lotto. Tax non-essential luxuries. Or just cut appointed personnel across the board for once. I bet if you cut 10-20% of appointed persons per office, not only would you save more salaries, you'd never notice a drop in service. The waste is at the top. Take it from a county worker. Call for extreme reductions in appointed personnel and watch.
