Sheriff Tom Dart threatens 925 layoffs after misappropriating millions..

Sheriff Tom Dart has already managed to cut 602 officer positions (despite his budget increasing 140 million) since taking office in 2006..  After misappropriating several hundred million dollars the Sheriff is claiming he is compelled to lay off 17% of his workforce if the soda tax is shot down by the courts..

Sheriff Tom Dart began his command as Cook County Sheriff with 3 directors.
Two terms later he added over 250 directors with some being associates of political allies and some being personal associates with combined salaries at over 22 million dollars per year, and this is sent out to the county personnel.

Sheriff Tom Dart's budget has increased 124 million (inflation considered 41 million) since he took office in 2006. The Sheriff added 68 Shakman exempt positions while eliminating 602 full time predominately officer positions in the last decade. Records indicate the Sheriff has been incredibly reckless with budget decisions, resulting in 600+ less officers providing valuable resources and protection to the citizens of Cook County.  Records also indicate that Sheriff has had more than sufficient funding to keep staffing at standard/safe levels but inexplicably chose not to do so!

2006 Sheriff Budget:: $388,872,980.00
2016 Sheriff Budget:: $513,351,967.00

Elimination of 602 Jobs..
 Sheriff office 2006:: 7,306 full time positions.
Sheriff office 2016::  6,704 full time positions.

Political Hiring..
Exempt Positions 2006:: 176 positions
Exempt Positions 2016:: 244 positions.

Now comes the threat of another 925 layoffs excluding the 244 political hires of course!!

  1. The man known as Sheriff sure is quick about putting out bad news. If he was only this quick about all the nonsense he and his office are a part of. And he doesn't even sign the thing. This is what passes for leadership. Amazing.

    1. The media constanly steals info from Second City Cop and pretends it's their own material. Nothing new.

  2. Our staff blasted this tip out to the media earlier today.. One hour later it's a "Sneed Exclusive" in the Suntimes. The kicker is they are blaming the Teamsters for opposing the soda tax. Of course Sneed won't kick over the skeletons in Dart's budget...

  4. ITS A BLUFF BY THE COUNTY PRESIDENT AND THE SHERIFF! No one is getting laid off! This is all a distraction and a photo opportunity for the big shake up coming in the next election for city mayor and county sheriff. No one is getting locked up. Watch and see how this unfolds! I'll bet the ranch on this one! LOL!!!!!

  5. So the safety of CookmCounty citizens is dependant on a tax on pop ? WTF kind of nonsense is that ? Get rid of some useless dead weight . Look at some of the contracts . Jesus look anywhere and you can find a few hundred million in Taxwinkles budgets. So the county needs your pop money, the state is stealing more of our money thanks to Madigan, Chicago is eating its own ass and taxing everything thats not nailed down. But the communerty just keeps chugging along soaking up as much money as they can stuff in their pockets. What a great time to be alive.

  8. Don't they have to layoff by seniority? All the secrets and cover ups people have been saving will come out if their chosen for layoff!!

    1. I wonder what the union is going to do if they do an affirmative action layoff not by seniority like they did to Detroit Police Officers?

  9. Either pass the soda tax or we will cut jobs,thus creating officers families without income or health care, shortchange the security of the tax payers...meanwhile friends of Dart and Prekwinkle remain "fat" and "secure", especially if you're an ex-states attorney and a friend...or if you are somehow "connected"...it's "blackmail" at its best. It's business as usual with these self absorbed political democrats in this county and state. Let's see what this state and County has produced...Obama...Hillary (of Park Ridge)...Ryan (prison)..Blago (prison)..Rostenkowski (prison)...Reynolds (prison) Carothers (father and Son)(prison)....Walker (prison)....and then the so called clergy ..Jackson, Meeks, Father(the showman)Pfleger and non other Alfonso(I dont pay taxes) Sharpton ! That's why Illinois residents had enough and are leaving by the thousands...

  11. The way the typeset looks on this 'memo' looks like something was copied and pasted. You see the shadowing on each typed line. Looks phony to me, like an original document was photoshopped.

  12. Eliminate the Sheriff's Police and let the unincorporated areas fend for themselves. They are staffed with lazy old timers and semi-political hacks anyway. Have the judges hold court for a full 8 hours rather than the 9:00-9:30 or 10:00am start with a 1:30 call that ends at 2:00-2:15 pm... The place is a ghost town by 3:00pm. The only time I have seen it go 8 hours is during a jury trial - which seldom happens. The unions protect the lazy ones and the hard workers are on their own. This is a good excuse for a purge of the system !!
