Dart has eliminated 681 positions from the Sheriffs office despite getting more funding than his predecessor .

Since the recent budget cuts Sheriff Tom Dart is receiving slightly more funding than his predecessor Micheal Sheahan, about 16 million if you consider inflation (higher salaries). However, Dart has now reduced his workforce by 682 predominantly officer positions since taking office. Why is this not being investigated?

Elimination of 682 Jobs..
 Sheriff office 2006:: 7,306 full time positions.
Sheriff office 2016::  6,625 full time positions.

2006 Sheriff Budget:: $388,872,980.00
2017 Sheriff Budget:: $513,351,967.00

    1. Really!? I don’t even know this Sergeant, but celebrating the layoffs and misfortunes of others is really fucking low. Keep in mind this is just the beginning. The sheriff is going to layoff more people. You can very well be next. This sheriff has ruined this department. Celebrate when he’s voted out.

    2. I really think Dart would like to privatize the jail do not laugh. I never thought we would go through layoffs at the Cook County Jail. If the jail was privatized Dart really have total control. Get out and vote !!!!!

  10. This shows the measure they are willing to go to save clouted non merit positions if the number is truley $30 million in additional cuts and he has only cut 77 postions so far thats only about $8 mill shaved off which means more job cuts to come but if he just got rid of 260 non merit postions thats about $26 mill which covers the majority of the $30 mill and would save sworn postions who gave the lives to help build this office for years long before any of these so called directors or project managers

  11. Sadly, he will be re-elected if no one qualified steps up to the plate... However, there is still time for someone to step and run as an Independent! Any comers out there?

  12. For Immediate Release
    To: Sheriff Deputies and Staff at Cook County Sheriff’s Dept
    From. Edward Acevedo, Candidate for Cook County Sheriff
    Date: January 7th, 2018
    I want to take this opportunity to reach out to all my brothers and sisters in blue who have been affected by the numerous layoffs within the Cook County Sheriff’s Department.
    First and foremost, I want you to know that I, Edward Acevedo, have heard your outcry. I have received numerous phone calls, texts and emails from many of you looking for support, looking for someone to understand your pain and your suffering as you face these very difficult times of being laid off or fired from the career that you love.
    I know most of you have served for many years within the sheriff’s office and despite having union protection, you were still laid off. Well, I am here to tell you, do not give up. Keep your heads high and hang in there, because change is on the way. I am with you my brothers and sisters in blue. Not in front of you, not behind you, but right next to you, fighting this good fight.
    I know very well how the current administration has abandoned you and left you by the wayside as it caters to the inmates currently housed at the cook county jail. I know about the hideous acts that these criminals commit against you every day without the appropriate consequences. That must STOP, and it will stop. It will stop on day ONE when I become your SHERIFF!
    We will run the Cook County Jail with due respect and dignity, but we will also run the jail with the authority vested upon us when we raised our right hand and took an oath to uphold our constitution and execute our jobs with the utmost integrity. Those days must come back and they WILL come back when I become your sheriff.
    Edward Acevedo
